The fashion industry is also so essential to social media. The massive waste that comes with the incredibly fast, trend-based consumerism and the elitism.
The artist captures aspects of nature and weaves in aspects that reflect who she is as a person. In the beginning she planned to look like a human but realized she’s not human. The focus is on those beings in-between, between humans and animals.
Sojin Park sources and acquires a lot of textiles and fabrics that she keeps in a bin to recycle and reimagines for wearables or textiles pieces. Friends have gifted her pre-loved clothes and dead-stock. Leftover materials from “500KG CO2” production have also been incorporated in this art piece. The artist finds anything that appeals to her in texture or quality. Natural dyeing of tattered leftover fabric pieces with leaves and petals, incorporating Korean traditional black ink.
